DEPARTMENTAL PROFILE

In the 20th century, political science as a subject has become increasingly dynamic. Political science is the study of freedom, equality, democracy, justice, and rights. From the early Greek era to the present, it has made a significant contribution to people’s understanding and awareness of these concepts.

It is crucial to comprehend these ideas since they aid in comprehending the political arguments and their implications for global politics. By going over contemporary worldwide issues like terrorism, ethnic movements, human rights, gender equality and environmental issues, it makes students aware of the seriousness of the issues facing the nation and explores potential solutions and countermeasures. The Department of Political Science in Chilarai College was formally added to the arts Stream curriculum in the year 1973. The department offers both Regular and Major courses in degree. At present, there are four Assistant Professors out of which two are permanent and the other two are contractual. The department has more than 1000 students including the degree and higher secondary courses.

The department has a rich collection of books and journals. There are more than 831 books in the department which can be used by the students according to their requirements

In order to help the students to become responsible citizens of India and more equipped to face future difficulties, the Department works hard to instill in them a humanitarian approach to political analysis as well as analytical abilities and a problem-solving mindset.
