English Department
The department of English has introduced honours/major courses from 1997. The department offers BA English Honours/Major, BA Regular/minor Courses The Department of English has an additional duty to teach English in HS Arts Classes in the college since its inception. Keeping in view of the necessity of improvement in Communicating Skills and Soft Skills among the students, the Department is going to start a Certificate Course in Spoken English as add on course for the students of the department soon. However the Department has initiated an honest attempt to teach the students having ICT facilities.
Vision: The vision of the department is to effectively spread understanding of English language, literature and culture among the students of the college.

- To provide innovative and comprehensive English language instruction that prepares students for academic, professional, and personal success.
- To promote English language as an effective medium of communication like other Indian Languages
- To promote an inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity, embraces cultural perspectives, and fosters mutual respect among students, faculty, and staff.

Facilities:
The Department has departmental library. There is facility in the department library to borrow books and read books if so desired by students. The department has dedicated department chamber with in house class room for honours students. The department has a wall magazine which is prepared by the students time to time. The department has a white board. The faculties of the department often use audio-visual aid for teaching purpose.

Summary of Course Outcome Attainment
The English Department, Chilarai College, has successfully achieved the desired outcomes for the course. Most students met or exceeded the performance indicators set for each outcome. Continuous improvement will be achieved based on feedback and performance data to further enhance student learning and achievement.
The overall attainment for a course is calculated by combining 20% of the Internal Assessment Test scores and 80% of the University Attainment Level. With 'n' representing the number of course outcomes, the attainment level of the course is displayed after determining the percentage for each course outcome.
