   It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the official website of Chilarai College. Established in 1973, the college came into being as a result of the unwavering support and steadfast determination of those noble personalities who had the vision, dream and the commitment to set up an institution for higher education in the remotest part of Western Assam. Named after the 16th Century’s greatest warrior scholar Biswa Mahabir Chilarai of Koch Dynasty the college has emerged as beacon of  grass root empowerment and a potential tool of social engineering among mostly the economically challenged communities in the western region of Assam. Brought under the deficit grant-in-aid system in the year 1987 and enlisted under UGC Act of 2(f) and 12(B) in the year 2001 the college has successfully completed its 2^nd cycle of NAAC Assessment and Accreditation in 2015 with Grade B . The college celebrated Golden Jubilee in January 2024 with the spontaneous support from the local communities, alumni and all stakeholders. The college being essentially a rural college has a distinct eco friendly campus, and has scope for significant expansion in future in terms of size, quantity and quality. From the academic session 2023-2024, the college has  adopted  FYUGP under NEP 2020 for B,A,(Arts) & BBA at UG level. The college under the franchise of Gauhati University Distance Learning programmes is offering courses at PG level in some subjects. The has received approval for opening KK Handique Study Centre recently where a good number of distance learning courses both at UG & PG shall be offered from the session 2024-25. In addition to that the college has received fund for introducing Science Stream and there is every possibility that Science stream shall be introduced from the next academic session. This will address the long cherished expectations of aspiring youths coming from extremely economically backward society for Higher education in Science subjects and will significantly contribute to the multidisciplinary course structure of NEP 2020 as well. Since inception the college has been solid platform for women empowerment and gender equality. The college has consistently higher percentage of girls student enrolment and performance wise they are doing extremely well in various walks of life. Another significant addition to the college has been its allotment of additional 15 bighas of land adjacent to the college existing campus of 6 bighas. The quest for excellence and expansion is never ending process and sincere efforts from the dedicated faculties, staffs, and other stake holders shall continue relentlessly to achieve the desired target. Shortly the college is going to face the 3^rd Cycle of NAAC Assessment and Accreditation. I strongly hope the  performance of the college shall be a turning point for achieving the next level of benchmark in its pursuits of quality and excellence . The motto of Chilarai College Logo: “ Bidyaya Tu Pramuchyate” (Knowledge Liberates) that the College , shall forever , strive to spread and materialize.
